“I believe that the World Wide Web is, as a matter of fact, the noogenesis of the noosphere.” – Ralph Abraham, The Evolutionary Mind (1988)
Lawrence Hagerty wrote in The Spirit of the Internet,“…the Internet is not the noosphere. It is merely an infrastructure that is now available for the noosphere to use.” Hagerty goes on to profess, “I believe that the Internet is serving as just such an attractor, or basin of attraction, drawing the Earth’s most creative minds into a synergistic union out of which a new form of human consciousness can arise from the wells of chaos.“
The noosphere is a term created by Jesuit priest/radical thinker Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, whose ideas were frankly force-fed to me in college in the eighties (I happened to attend a Jesuit university where he was practically worshiped as a god). For that reason perhaps I wrongly assumed his teachings were more widespread than they actually were at the time. But I find no uncertain irony that his ideas continue to haunt my own delightfully synchronous journey towards Singularity.
Not the technological singularity of Ray Kurzweil; I’m talking more about what’s happening over at Reality Sandwich, and other important, alternative think tanks and blogs of our time. “New science” is termed thusly because, reminiscent of Capra’s intuitions of decades past, scientific discoveries are merged with new (and perhaps very old) interpretations of consciousness. This is how it should be; the Newtonian universe must ultimately be discarded in favor of the quantum discoveries that tickle our brains, easing us into new frontiers of existence, consciousness and human evolution. The homo cyber I find mentioned here and there, if left alone in the wilderness of pure artificial or mechanistic intelligence, would be the unfortunate result of not taking the final step of this process. Like refusing to take the red pill, our psyches would be left to rot inside the prison Matrix of third dimensional space-time. “There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy,” reminds Shakespeare.
The Internet may be Noosphere 1.0, a precursor to an enlightened state of consciousness; or perhaps, Noosphere for Beginners, or Noosphere for Dummies. Though arguably a creation of Big Brother’s sinister and eavesdropping omnipresence, the Internet is also being used, perfectly a la Tao, as a vehicle to transmit thoughts and ideas in preparation for a purely telepathic noosphere. The next several years its role will be vastly influential in terms of the global progression of consciousness, and I urge all to participate as they can until then (or until the government curtails this freedom, much as it has done with suppressing entheogens); but at some point, perhaps soon, the circuits and transistors will go the way of the covered wagon. Many of us will leave our electronic devices abandoned on the beach as we eventually look up and realize the great sea of enlightenment and oneness is before us, and go in for a dip – never to return. The key to ridding ourselves of the shackles of this reality is love, pure and simple. Love is the thing no machine can transmit; love is the unique trait, or ability, that will catapult our transformation from homo sapiens not to homo cyber, but to homo luminus.
The minds at work on the great consciousness project at this moment are alive during this time not by accident. They are all Surfing the Tao though they may not be aware of it. We are all giving what we have, and taking what we need, in some kind of post-modern, spirit-driven, psychedelic communistic mind trip, hastened by our collective visions of 2012 and beyond. Hagerty calles it entheospace; I might describe the sensation as a sort of dreamstate, finding oneself floating down a river of consciousness, gently colliding with others riding down the same stream in a kind of synchronistic, fractal pattern of atunement, as we all slip closer to the great sea.
Daniel Pinchbeck’s first book was entitled, Breaking Open the Head – which I mention here not for its particular content, which is a mind-expanding examination of the entheogenic experience, but because it so aptly illustrates my own particular state of being.
My own head cracked in college, during several misguided entheogenic experiences. I discovered Terence McKenna, but as far as spirituality goes, I was definitely a seeker who didn’t really want to spend any time looking.
This all changed in 1999. The previous fracture, which had begun to scar over, was rent asunder, and a torrent of new knowledge and higher frequencies began to stream in. I will only say: the true masters are truly hidden. And it is meant to stay that way, for now, perhaps because actual participants can often teach each other more in the beginning. But I was urged to continue meditating, and before long I had what Neil Kramer over at The Cleaver might call a fourth dimensional experience.
Without any entheogenic aid, I crossed over into the void. Suddenly, I Knew.
There are no further words for what I experienced. The language simply doesn’t exist. But it changed everything I knew, all that I was. What followed was years of reading, researching, listening, loving, meditating and change. Many of the books that appeared as if by magic I have listed here. My intellectual side was frustrated, but my spirit was at peace for the first time I can remember in my adult life. The end result of that was, I wrote a book, which was really just a cathartic expression of my overwhelmed psyche.
My own path is still guided by amazing synchronicity and coincidence. I find it startling how often I find articles written about the very subject I had been ruminating about. How I discover brilliant minds have already found answers to the questions I have been asking. How so many of our paths are beginning to converge on the Great Path. Spirituality, Taoism, 2012, eschatology, Planet X, the Matrix, conspiracy, sinister agendas, alien technology, symbology, synchromysticism, mind control, electromagnetism, alternative energy, quantum physics, plasma physics, torsion physics, entheogenic-inspired thought and conscious enlightenment, ecocentric living, — the puzzle pieces are coming together rapidly. I cannot explain how I know what I Know, yet I will say; the quickening is upon us. The noosphere is coalescing. The Puzzle of Being, and the question of consciousness, is in the process of being realized by a vast cadre of psycho-cryptographers.
The great irony is, I sense, that this enlightened, super-charged, noospheric state of being is and has always has been, here and now. This ancient Way that has been lost during our fall, over perhaps hundreds of thousands of years, is now being quickly rediscovered, picked up and dusted off as some kind of primordial reflex to protect ourselves from what we subconsciously know is coming. We are remembering, so that we will survive.
I remember Y2K. Regarding expectations for 2012, the intensity of thought, intellect, spirit, and energy now in 2008 is somewhat on par with what happened the months previous to Y2K. And we have nearly five years left. What incredible postulations, theories, discoveries, transitions, realizations, opportunities, manifestations, creations and expectations will surface between now and then?
And what will happen on December 21, 2012 at 11:11 universal time? That remains to be seen; but to prepare for either global catastrophe, psychedelic wormholes or simply more life as we know it – the only answer is, and always will be: love, peace and harmony.
Sometimes I wonder how I find what I do here online – and when I do, I wonder what else I’m missing. I’m only one person. Only one computer. Only so many hours in the day.

As it acts in the world, the Tao
is like the bending of a bow.
The top if bent downward;
the bottom is bent up.
It adjusts excess and deficiency
so that there is perfect balance.
It takes from what is too much
and gives to what isn’t enough.

Angela, thank you for the conversation. I too feel the convergence… strands that have been woven over centuries are beginning to show a picture in the tapestry. Too many sincere people are spotting the same synchronicities, signs, and markers: something IS happening in these times; something that makes being alive now of tremendous importance. What is around the corner? There is too much at stake here for there to be only destruction – the Spirit didn’t come here for this… it came to push, to birth… I cannot feel any other way.
For myself, I would not be in the state I am without the help of the work of Idries Shah (read ‘The Sufis); and of my present Teacher, Omar-Ali Shah. These are my thank yous….
PS. ‘People of the Secret’ by Ernest Scott helped this seeker on his way too…..
The book “Walking Between the Worlds : The Science of Compassion” by Gregg Braden and also “The Gregg Braden Audio Collection” which is a set of several CDs. He almost has me believing there is more than the 5 senses of the world.
I also discovered Huna a Hawaiian shamanism tradition taught by “Pohaku” at Hunatrainer.com It’s seven priciples are a great tool box to have on hand when walking through life.
1. The world is what you think it is.
2. There are no limits.
3. Energy flows where attention goes.
4. Now is the moment of power.
5. To love is to be happy with.
6. All power comes from within.
7. Effectiveness is the measure of truth.

David Icke’s books have opened my eyes to other possiblilities. Though I may not subscribe to all his ideas.
I am currently reading “Surfing the Tao”
I would also add that to my list. Thank you.
Thank you for this beautiful conversation. I have found great insight reading Richard Rose, who I stumbled upon (online, of course), then ignore, then rediscovered.

And, through “science fiction”, Jeanette Winterson, whose latest book, Stone Gods, made me cry from the beauty and truth of its prose.

Great read. I am almost certain that there is something happening within the human psyche that many are unaware of. One must become attuned to it or synchronized with it–or, aware of it. Catching the wave maybe… Which is why many may not know or understand what this is all about yet.
I didn’t realize any of this until just recently. I found myself seeing 11:11 all the time. At first I found it amusing but as it occurred to me more often I became curious. So I googled it. Wouldn’t you know it, I wasn’t the only one. How weird is this that there are many others seeing the same thing. This search lead me to 11:11 on the winter solstice on 12/21/12. So began my infatuation with the Mayans and the ancients, which reached to the Egyptians and the Pyramids and the Sumerians et al. I was on a quest to find the meaning of it all.
Then came that day in Barnes and Noble where a book stood out amongst all the other new releases, The reason was obvious. The book was 2012, The Return of Quetzelcoatl (sp) by Daniel Pinchbeck. What a read. I loved it.
I then stumbled upon this site searching the net one night, and ironically enough much is mentioned here about that book and Daniel. Coincidence?
Much of what is written here echos my same exact thought patterns. It’s very odd, like we all studied from the same book. How can this be? Maybe this synchronicity thing is very real. It feels good. Like I’m part of something so huge.
Thanks for all your work here. More people need to know about all of this.
Mike
Thank you for your thoughts Angela. Well done.
If I had to name a single person whose work has been a guiding light for me, it is Manly P. Hall. Not only for “The Secret Teachings of All Ages”, but the hundreds of other books and thousands of lectures.
“… the great materialistic progress which we have venerated for so long is on the verge of bankruptcy. We can no longer believe that we are born into this world to accumulate wealth and abandon ourselves to mortal pleasures. We see the dangers and realize that we have been exploited for centuries. We were told the twentieth century was the most progressive that the world has ever known, but unfortunately the progression was in the direction of self-destruction.
To avoid a future of war, crime, and bankruptcy, the individual must begin to plan his own destiny, and the best source for the necessary information comes down to us through the writings of the ancients.”
Mahalo for all of these excellent comments. Keep ‘em coming. If I may quote Kingsley from another conversation – we live in unprecedented times.
Non-local acausal was a great revelation for me as was the discovery of the works attributed to Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche.
The terma tradition of the Bon religion comforts me – an easter egg hunt across time is appealing.
Surf well
brilliant read, thanks!
the concept of the world being one whole conciousness is a *very* interesting one. it even works from an atheistic point of veiw, being that when we die, what makes us up, the particles and chemicals and whatnot, then go and become the earth, and go on to nuture the life on it. the film ‘The Fountain’ got me onto that train of thought.

and
the ‘shopping for spirit’ articles by Steven Gamble (also available on the internet)
really helped me to see the big picture of things. it seems mankind is stuck at a dilemma: one path is Ego and suffering and possible destruction (take conspiracies into account aswell…), while on the other is a journey to true freedom. lets just hope we choose the latter.

My friend Brian showed me where my crown chakra was located and taught me quickly how to meditate and notice the sensations around it, and that’s when I fell in the rabbit hole.
I really liked this blog entry, I like the idea that eventually we could all choose to stop talking!
And tune into the natural and harmonic influences of our surroundings.
Maybe at some point the mere thought of sitting infront of a computer screen will become abhorent to us, maybe because we will more easliy be able to tune in to our desired thought streams of knowledge and communion that we currently look for on the internet.
I do believe in telepathy of some kind, perhaps by being more in touch with a universal field, connections are made for us, by just our intention and desire.
The books that initiated change for me were The Indigo Children: The New Kids have Arrived, by Lee Caroll and Jan Tober, The Children of Now: Crystalline Children, Indigo Children , Star Kids, Angels on Earth. . . , by Meg Blackburn Losey. Reading these led me to Gordon-Michael Scallion’s book, Notes from the Cosmos. A year ago I would have dismissed the idea of psychic abilities, but now I’m excited by the belief of many intuitives that we all have the ability. Unfortunately, the people in my physical life are not supportive of my quest and that can be very disheartening. Websites I found useful were redicecreations.com and listening to coastocoastam.com. I’m looking forward to reading more of Surfing the Tao.
What a wonderful treat to surf on links and discover this wonderful place. I’m a searcher and wanderer and occasionally I peek into dark and dangerous places, but I always seem to end up looking for love. And I’m in a hurry, I’m a baby boomer, born in 1947, never had time for the computer, it was something I did at work, and now retired I am finding my spirit on the web. I read everything, and I look everywhere for answers.
I love movies and here’s one that is filled with the mysteries of love
The Enchanted Cottage
Decades ago, I saw a metaphysical movie that wonderfully illustrates the alchemical power of love. In “The Enchanted Cottage,” a homely, self-effacing maid and a blind, crippled war hero fall in love. She blossoms into an attractive, self-confident woman and he into a charming, handsome country gentleman, both happier than ever before.
Oliver and Laura ascribe their transformation to the legendary enchanted cottage, but one day, its spell is broken by the pitying comments of people who see them as ugly and broken. The magic disappears until a magnificent tone poem played on piano by a composer friend opens their eyes to the true alchemy in every life: the beauty and music of love.
Sounds like a fairy tale, doesn’t it? Yet this is exactly what happens in romantic love. The world is suddenly beautiful, and we laugh open-heartedly in joy, walking on air. In Buddhist psychology, this is a state of “attraction.” Its opposite, “aversion,” disenchants us from love.
Life is precisely what we make of it, isn’t it? Love resides within each heart, waiting to be recognized as the transformer that it is: an infinitely powerful vibrational expression of the One Word, literally the “uni-verse.” This transcendent viewpoint, with its singular quality of attraction, makes it easy to love without conditions or expectations, and to forgive and forget what is said and done by others, if we so choose. Love, a tone poem, makes life beautiful and harmonious.
My still, small voice has always claimed this, so I am delighted to share with you some recent proof of it. According to the HeartMath Institute, the higher frequency and shorter wavelength of love spirals through the strands of our DNA and, by interlacing more amino acid “coding” sites, awakens us to who we are meant to be and really are. Not only does love raise our frequencies of vibration, by resonance it attracts to us more light. We are healed and made whole by the musical vibrations of love, which transport us into the divine and draw the divine into us.
To me, the secret of the “en-chanted” cottage is that each of us is building one of our own with the quantum energies of thought, word and deed.
So, what is the house of your soul like? What motto
is written on your front door, and does it need to be rephrased? Have you swept the cobwebs from each nook and cranny? Perhaps it’s time to clear away what does not belong and to place fresh flowers on each table, bringing joy to yourself and all others who enter in.
But what do we do when a guest is unkind and leaves us feeling angry or hurt? Finding myself in just this position recently, I asked the still, small voice of my soul for insight and was told that no matter what the cause, discord’s only healer is sympathy and love; giving these to everyone disentangles us from the anger, misperception and separation that confuse our minds and blur the truth.
Within two weeks, this is exactly what happened. Once again, my relationship was healed by steadfast love, faith and a willingness to be present to anyone who is lost (including myself!).
Just as in “The Enchanted Cottage,” keeping the doors to your heart open and clear will allow the love in the Light to heal and transform you with its magic. None of us can run or hide from the mirrors in our houses, as they exist for our benefit. Rather, let us be receptive to everything, excluding nothing and pulling every experience into our “core star,” or soul, as energy healer and atmospheric scientist Barbara Brennan advises.
This is how to “walk between the worlds,” teaches spiritual leader Gregg Braden: by integrating All That Is, we transcend duality and become whole through the union of opposites.
Let us all “enchant” our cottages with love to create a bright new world on Earth. What better plan for peace, already settling so deeply across our love-resonant planet!
