Isn't it interesting what people will do for a photo op? The White House garden is just for publicity in my opinion. I have difficulty thinking the first lady will be out tending her garden on a daily basis. They could plant a garden and have staff take care of it if they just wanted to raise some vegies. No need for the media to be involved.

I agree that this is a step in the right direction, even if not a perfect one. With so many convoluted and contrasting interests in politics, especially at that level, a single perspective would never perceive a clear message.

For me, the most important thing is that the issue gets people thinking about where their food is coming from, and hence, what food they are eating. If it means one less burger served at McDonald's, it would be worth it to me!

@Enlight thanks for the nice words! :)
@Timothy you make some great points, I appreciate your thoughts. Thanks for adding your wisdom.
@Charles Indeed it is, and we should. I hope this will open a constructive dialog about organic, and non-GMO, farming.

I think this is a step in the right direction. Promotion in agriculture and farming is a good thing for people who live in urban areas or just the people who have no idea what agriculture is. Yes, it might not be a efficient but at least it's using the WH for something other than taking up lawn space. This is what we should be promoting. We should also start promoting farmers who are trying to support the growing organic movement:

Really suprised to see Ms Obama start an old-school garden that wastes water, offers poor yields, promotes topsoil erosion, and reduces oxygen producing grass.

Its a shame that they didn't read on modern gardening and install a nice square-foot garden. A square-foot garden uses 20% of the space and 10% of the water of a traditional garden, but with 100% of the yield. Not to mention they look far nicer.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3ILWPt-tgI&feature=player_embedded

Its much easier to convince Americans to install a 3- or 4-foot box of food than the monstrosity they're building in the South Lawn. Especially since theres no digging or tilling involved.

Also, the WH garden is not organic as it doen't meet federal standards for organic. Use of the the term organic by the WH is likely a violation of federal law.

Nice switch of layouts, I like the bright white. The font is good, but you could boost it up one notch in size. The header is awesome.
